Anna de Codorníu Brut White Half bottle 37.5 cl
A delicious cava with very fine bubbles. Aromas of citrus and apple. The taste is very soft and ripe, with hints of freshly cut grass and citrus. A top cava beautifully presented in a half bottle.
The Producer: Codorníu
Codorníu is a Spanish producer of cava, a Spanish sparkling wine. Codorníu is based in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in Catalonia. The family business is one of the largest cava producers and also has locations in California and Argentina. The cavas are mainly made from macabeo, parellada, xarel-lo, and also chardonnay grapes.
The history of the winery dates back to 1551. A document from that time mentions Jaume Codorníu as the owner of wine barrels and presses. In 1659, Anna Codorníu married Miquel Raventós. Anna was the last owner with the Codorníu name; since then, the company has been in the hands of the Raventós family. In 1872, Josep Raventós created the first Spanish form of champagne there. Since 1885, the company has focused exclusively on this drink. By 1895, they were producing about one hundred thousand bottles annually. Codorníu became a purveyor to the royal household in 1897 and also won international awards.
Under the buildings of Codorníu are the wine cellars, forming a network of corridors totaling 38 kilometers across five floors. The buildings themselves were constructed at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. They were designed by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch and were recognized as a national monument by the Catalan government in 1976.
